This is our first hash straight out of Amsterdam, and if Red Light Windmill is any indication of what they’re sending our way, it won’t be the last.
Lighter than many traditional imports, Red Light Windmill has a beautiful reddish-brown colour and a soft, slightly sticky texture that’s consistent all the way through. It breaks apart easily, rolls nicely between the fingers, and is exactly the kind of hash that’s a pleasure to work with.
But it’s the nose that really gets you. Crack into a piece and you’re met with a fresh, floral spice backed by a distinct diesel funk. Rich, fragrant and seriously inviting—the kind of hash you find yourself smelling twice before you even light it.
The smoke follows through nicely. Smooth, flavourful and full of character, with that spicy, slightly gassy profile carrying into the session. It has more presence and punch than many of the old-school Moroccan-style imports, while still delivering the relaxed, satisfying experience that makes a good imported hash so easy to come back to.
As with most traditional imported hash, we don’t have an exact strain attached to the starting material. What matters here is the finished product—and Amsterdam certainly knows a thing or two about hash. Between the coffeeshops, local producers and decades of hash culture, expectations are pretty high.
Red Light Windmill lived up to them.
